Since Donald Trump already has an estimated net worth of $3.7 billion, I guess it makes sense that he’s not going to accept the $400,000 (£317,410) presidential salary as well.

Throughout his election campaign, the President-elect insisted that if he gained office, he would not ‘take even one dollar’.

Speaking at an event in September 2015, he told the crowd in New Hampshire,The first thing I’m going to do is tell you that if I’m elected president, I’m accepting no salary, okay? That’s not a big deal for me.”

He later reiterated his rejection of the small fortune in a Twitter Q&A later that month where he said that he was ‘totally giving up my salary if I become president’.

One of Trump’s major arguments was that he was superior because he is not bound to the bidding of financial backers because of his own wealth.

He is following the footsteps of previous Presidents like Herbert Hoover and John F Kennedy to both reportedly donated their salaries to charity.
