George Osborne’s most recent budget has been rightly condemned for its treatment of the most vulnerable in society, and you’d probably expect that the negative press would mean he’d be keen to make amends, you’d be wrong.
In the last few weeks the Tories have been widely condemned for their most recent budget cuts which would see personal independence payments, for disabled people, slashed by £30 a week tipping many vulnerable people over the poverty line.
The move’s been so unpopular that even Ian Duncan Smith managed to find his conscience and resigned from the cabinet over the cuts – although he subsequently lost it again when it came time to vote against them.
The Shadow Chancellor, John McDonnell took the opportunity to call out Osborne at yesterday’s budget debate, calling it an ‘attack on disabled people which would devastate their lives’. It was a brutal and frank attack which would have lain any decent man bare.
Unfortunately they weren’t talking to a decent man they were talking to George Osborne, and he was too busy laughing at something on Michael Gove’s phone to give a shit.
Seriously it’s moments like this that you realise quite how awful the Tories can be…
