An angling club in West Yorkshire has issued a warning to its members after an increase in people hooking-up for sex in bushes behind a pond.

The problem has apparently been going on for years in woodland near the Clifton Lagoon, near Brighouse, just off the A644 Wakefield Road, but recently things have become so bad they have had to issue a warning on their website.

Members fishing this venue must not confront people committing ‘illegal activities’ or allow violence to take place. If you do witness such ‘activities’ taking place, please report it to us. This information will then be passed on to Brighouse Police and Calderdale Council for them to follow up.

It continues:

We have been informed that it will only be dealt with as an offence being committed if the email states the witness felt harassed, alarmed or distressed by the incident, so please include this in the report.

People wanting to meet for sex have left notes pinned to trees in the area advertising both themselves and the type of partner they would like to encounter and in an attempt to ensure the safety of those angling for a good time, sexual health workers have attached condoms to a post at the site.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said:

It is not illegal for people to meet at sites such as the Lagoon [but] where behaviour may constitute a criminal offence, all reports will always be treated seriously and dealt with sensitively.

Sex with a stranger in some creepy woods near a motorway or standing around in the rain waiting to catch a fish? Each to their own I suppose…
