Other men have now come forward to say how it feels to be raped by a woman, to make people aware that they can too be victims of sexual crimes.

The anonymous users spoke of their pride at the bravery of those who speak out about male rape, which is rarely discussed. However, female survivors questioned whether male rape is equally traumatic for men as it is for women.

The conversation was started by an anonymous Whisper user who wrote: ‘Last week I openly announced my rape that occurred two years ago. I’m a male. My attacker was female. It does happen.’

Within hours of his post, he had received more than 245 replies and had been liked more than 1665 times. A supporter spoke of their pride for him being able to speak about the ‘horrible’ subject and many rallied behind him with praise such as ‘stay strong’.

It wasn’t long before other men shared how they too had also been victims. Commenters revealed horrific stories of friends being gang raped by women and being drugged, with one man being date raped and another user revealing his ex had given him MDMA before making him have sex with her.

Others questioned how it was physically possible for a man to maintain an erection if he didn’t want sex, but users were quick to explain that we have ‘no control’ over our bodies, regardless of the circumstances.

Unfortunately, not everybody was entirely sympathetic, with one woman stating that they could probably escaped the situation unless physically restrained in some way during the ordeal- ‘Okay, let’s be real,’ she wrote. ‘Unless you’re tied down or something, it’s like that you could have escaped. Whilst another female user said she couldn’t imagine rape being as painful for a man as it is for a woman. ‘I couldn’t imagine it hurting like it does when a man rapes a woman,’ she said. ‘But I am sorry.’

Discussing these things is certainly a step in the right direction…
