People have always got to make it sexual, haven’t they?
We finally make the breakthrough of artificial intelligence and realistic humanoid robots, and straight away our sex-obsessed society takes it south!
Cyborg prostitutes, as seen in Channel 4’s incredible Humans series (pictured below), could soon become a reality with the ever-growing demand for artificial sexual experiences.
There are claims that the practice could put an end to sex slavery and trafficking because the robots would be cheaper than prostitutes, The Mirror reports.
If we put the creepiness of sex with a robot to one side for a second, NUI Galway Law professor John Danaher, who has conducted research into human enhancement and artificial intelligence, said sex robots could be a good substitute for human prostitutes.
Talking to the Daily Star, Danaher said:
The cyborgs can cater for desire for sexual variety, freedom from constraint and complication and fear of lack of sexual success.
Technology may become better at developing emotional bonds with their clients. They won’t need to ‘fake it’ the same way as human prostitutes.
I guess the worry of sexually transmitted disease would also be alleviated… but you’re still shagging a robot at the end of the day.
Here’s the world’s most realistic looking love doll, by the way, if you were wondering:
No. Definitely still no.
The company who are working hard to bring the product to its UK customers are RealDoll.
Matt McMullen, CEO of RealDoll (what a job title), revealed that the company is developing artificial intelligence technology to make their dolls more realistic.
As part of an AMA (ask me anything) on Reddit, McMullen said:
I think it will allow for an option that never existed before, and for some, may represent a happiness they [users] never though they could have.
And here’s a little tour of the RealDoll offices for you…
They are being marketed on their website in a very human way, using phrases like ‘connect with a real doll’, blurring the line between artificial and real human qualities.
With the sex industry booming and sex tourism becoming ever-prevalent, these robot prostitutes seem like they’ll take the world by a storm.
It was only earlier this year that a virtual reality headset company, similar to Oculus Rift, created a £300 sex simulation suit that people seem to be ‘getting behind’ (sorry).
Here’s a weird video of the suit in action (which sold out very quickly, by the way):
Rumours have it that human to robot sex is going to become a common thing within the next decade.
Many people are claiming they would rather have sex with a robot instead of a human (I guess you wouldn’t have to deal with the awkward post-coital debrief).
What do you reckon? Yay or dismay?
