Manuel Neuer (GK)

Clean Sheets: 4

Save Rate: 86.2%

Saves: 25

Distance Covered: 38.5 km

Golden Glove Winner

There have been many great goalkeeping performances in this World Cup, but the World Cup winning German keeper is the pick of the bunch.

The 28 year old Bayern Munich man is hands down the best goalkeeper in the World, and has shown his class throughout the tournament.

The ultimate modern day keeper, Neuer is a commanding presence, reads the game as well as any outfield player, and has operated as a sweeper as much as he has a goalie this summer.

Daley Blind (LB)

Games: 7

Goals: 1

Assists: 3

Recovered balls: 34

Clean Sheets: 4

The Dutch left back has had a great tournament. He has defended well, while also providing Holland with a good deal of width further up the pitch.

Blind has managed to set up three goals from the left back position, including a lovely ball for Van Persie’s goal against Spain.

He topped off the tournament with a well taken goal against Brazil in the third and fourth place play-off.

Mats Hummels (CB)

Games: 7

Goals: 2

Clean Sheets: 4

Recovered Balls: 47

Passes Complete: 281

Golden Ball Nominee

Hummels has been Germany’s best defender throughout the World Cup, and had another good game in the final.

The big centre half has shown discipline and strength for the most part, and he was missed against Algeria.

Hummels biggest contribution to Germany has to be the winning goal that he scored against France, the game was so tight which made it all the more important.

Ezequiel Garay (CB)

Games: 7

Clean Sheets: 4

Recovered Balls: 52

Distance Covered: 76.1 km

The beaten finalist has been solid at the back for a team who didn’t given much away defensively.

The Benfica man has been great in the air, and covered a lot of ground for a centre half.

Garay is tough and disciplined, and was unlucky not to score a few goals from corners in the last few games.

Philipp Lahm (RB)

Games: 7

Assists: 2

Passes Complete: 562

Clean Sheets: 4

Distance Covered: 81 km

Golden Ball Nominee

The best right back in the world, and doesn’t even play there for his club anymore.

One of the best things that could have happened Germany was Philipp Lahm having to be dropped back into defense.

Lahm is such an intelligent, hard working player, the Bayern man leads this German team by example.

Always looking to get forward and serve for an attacking outlet for his team, while never forgetting about his defensive responsibilities.

Mascherano (CDM)

Games: 7

Recovered Balls: 49

Pass Completion: 85.6 %

Distance Covered: 81.2 km

Golden Ball Nominee

Argentina weren’t overly convincing in terms of attack throughout the tournament, however they have been tough to break down. This is largely down to the fact that Mascherano has been sitting in front of the defence.

Mascherano has given his all during this World Cup, always breaking up play, and closing down danger, while still managing to maintain an impressive pass completion rate.

You’ll struggle to find an instance throughout the tournament where the 30 year old has pulled out of a challenge, he’s a true warrior, and a vital asset to the Argentinian national team.

 James Rodriguez (CM)

Recovered Balls: 10

Golden Boot Winner. Golden Ball Nominee

This young lad exceeded all expectations, and should have won the Golden Ball.

It now makes perfect sense as to why Monaco forked out 45 Million Euros to acquire the Colombians signature from Porto last season.

James has won the admiration of football fans all over the World, and performed outstandingly well for a 23 year old taking part in his first major tournament.

The wonder goal against Uruguay pretty much summed up Rodriguez’s World Cup, he is such a technically gifted player, and will no doubt blossom into one of the best footballers on the planet.

Kroos (CM)

Games: 7

Goals: 2

Assists: 4

Pass Completion: 84.8 %

Distance Covered: 82.6 km

Golden Ball Nominee

The young Bayern Munich midfielder is on the radar of many top European clubs, and it is obvious as to why he has sparked so much interest from the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

Kroos has worked tirelessly for Germany, and has been arguably their most influential player, after Muller, although he didn’t have an outstanding World Cup Final.

The 24 year old has been the focal point of the German midfield for most of the tournament, always looking to release the ball as quickly as possible, allowing Germany to counter at devastating speed.

Robben (LW)

Games: 7

Goals: 3

Dribbles Into The Area: 38

Distance Covered: 69.1 km

Golden Ball Nominee

The Dutch winger has been one of Holland’s top performers, running at defenders with lightening pace and close ball control.

Robben has covered a massive amount of ground throughout the World Cup, he will have seen this as his last chance to lift the trophy, and it showed in the way that he carried the team at times.

The fact that the Bayern winger dives so much has soured many football fan’s opinion of him, which is understandable, however, it’s not enough to keep him out of the team of the tournament.

Leo Messi (RW)

Games: 7

Goals: 4

Deliveries Into The Area: 26

Golden Ball Winner

Messi barely makes it into the team ahead of Neymar. Four goals and one assist would be a great return for most players, however, more was expected of the Barca forward.

All of Messi’s goals came in the group, and he hasn’t been overly impressive in the knock out stages.

The fact remains, however, that he did help a stuttering Argentina to top their group, and scored some fantastic goals in the process, albeit against weak opposition.

Messi, however, did not deserve the Golden Ball award, there were many players including Thomas Muller and James Rodriguez who will feel hard done by.

Muller (ST)

2014 World Cup Team Of The Tournament muller

Games: 7

Goals: 5

Assists: 3

Distance Covered:

Golden Ball Nominee

Muller really is Mr Germany! He has been immense, and got off to a flyer against Portugal.

An unorthodox striker, Muller always seems to find space on the pitch, and has been involved in some shape or form in most of Germany’s goals.

It feels like he’s been around forever, but it’s amazing that the Bayern man is only 24.

The World Cup winning forward will be disappointed that he didn’t win the Golden Ball award, but has come away from the tournament with the greatest prize of all.
