When you think of the Wales squad, you instantly think of their best player, Gareth Bale.
It’s fair enough, as the former Spurs winger is practically a one-man team, and is the world’s most expensive player after moving to Real Madrid for £80m.
But that isn’t enough for the rest of the Wales squad, who opt to praise another member of the squad on a weekly basis.
Who could it be? Hal Robson-Kanu? Neil Taylor? Simon Church?
Oh no…it’s JOE ALLEN of course.
Captain Ashley Williams has revealed the players have a WhatsApp group where one day a week, the members of the group will all appreciate the Liverpool midfielder, showering him with compliments as he goes about his daily life.
We have a WhatsApp messaging group and at least once a week we have a Joe Allen Appreciation Day.
Great beard, great haircut, great guy, he’s the main man in the squad.
Class player too.Advertisement
But what about Bale? Does he get annoyed that he’s the best player in the team and doesn’t get all the praise from team mates like Cristiano Ronaldo does back in Madrid?
Not according to his skipper:
Baleo is Baleo. He’s this superstar on one level and then just one of us on another level, getting involved in a bit of mischief. He’s been absolutely brilliant for us, as everyone has seen for themselves.
And what about Aaron Ramsey?
Rambo is quite low-key. He does get involved a little bit with the banter but he’s quiet compared to some of them.
He’s never stand-offish or anything like that but he is quietAdvertisement
Could have fooled me, with that fucking hair style…
So there you have it, Allen is the most popular man in the Wales squad and it’s not just because of his love of chickens, or his likeness to Andrea Pirlo.
