Barcelona are willing to sell Arda Turan, just six months after he made his debut for the club.
The Turkey international moved to the Camp Nou from Atletico Madrid last summer, but thanks to Barca’s transfer embargo, didn’t make his debut until January.
When he finally got on the pitch in his new colours, he didn’t set the world alight, and now the Catalan giants are set to offload him, with Chelsea and Arsenal interested in his services.
According to Spanish newspaper SPORT, the €55m acquisition of Andre Gomes from Valencia is the final nail in Turan’s coffin, as it pushes him down to sixth choice midfielder.
Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic are the first choice midfield trio for Barca, and new arrivals Gomes and Denis Suarez are expected to be back up, leaving Turan out in the cold.
It’s not as simple as selling him to anyone though, as the player wants to play for a team capable of challenging for league titles, and match his big wages.
Besiktas, Inter Milan and Napoli are all thought to be interested, but with Juventus unlikely to relinquish their stranglehold on Serie A any time soon, a move to England could materialise.
But that depends on a club willing arrange a loan deal, with no one fancying a fee of over £20m for a 29-year-old who has never played in the Premier League before.
Monaco is another option for the Turk, but they must qualify for the Champions League and get rid of Radamel Falcao before making a move.
With Barcelona also rumoured to be open to selling Aleix Vidal – the other buy during their transfer embargo – maybe this is a lesson that embargoes should always be obeyed.
