Speculation as to what caused Jone Jones USADA violation and withdrawal from UFC 200 is mounting, but Chael Sonnen is confident he knows the cause.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, Sonnen claimed two oestrogen blockers were found in Jon Jones’ system.
The 39-year-old, who speaks from experience on the topic of drug testing having retired following a failed test, added that Jones had wasted the opportunity to come clean.
This doesn’t make Jon innocent at all. Jon is guilty. The only card that he had to play is what did you test positive for, and they refused to reveal it.
He tested positive for some oestrogen blockers. He tested positive for two oestrogen blockers, there I revealed it. Aren’t we creating some news?
This was followed by Rogan suggesting such a violation implies potential steroid abuse, adding: “Oestrogen blockers are usually when people are getting off of steroids.”
Right, when you’re coming off of a cycle. If you up your testosterone your oestrogen just naturally ups, and guys don’t want oestrogen. So if you’re a guy you take the blocker to block that. That’s a way they can catch you after the fact.
It is absolutely worth remembering that Jones and his management both continue to deny any intentional wrongdoing at present, so Sonnen’s comments must be taken with a pinch of salt – regardless of his experience on the matter.
But the truth will eventually out, one way or another.
