Zlatan Ibrahimovic is having a great year.
He’s already won Ligue 1 with Paris Saint Germain, sealed a move to Manchester United to work under old boss Jose Mourinho, and scored four goals in his first four games.
And he’s never looked happier, according to former United ace Jesper Blomqvist, who has compared him to Eric Cantona.
Speaking to Manchester Evening News, Blomqvist said:
Zlatan couldn’t have got a better start. It’s crazy. It’s incredible. It’s so cool.
England is a country crazy for football and Manchester is a city crazy for football where the fans have got used to pretty much everything, but it has been a long time since they’ve seen this kind of start from a player.
You can see with Zlatan that he is fully aware, that he knows that this is a wonderful challenge that he needed now to be able to play well.
You can see that he is incredibly pumped up for this and it’s been a long time since I’ve seen him this engaged and so enjoying his football.
Blomqvist played for United for three years in the late 1990’s, and was famously part of the treble winning 1999 side, and started the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
He played with the likes of Paul Scholes, David Beckham and Andy Cole, and clearly rates Ibrahimovic as one of new breed of United legends.
And it’s his trademark confidence that has convinced the Swede that his fellow countryman is similar to another United legend – Cantona.
He reminds me of Eric Cantona, the aura he has, how he carries himself.
He really shows everyone that he is a winner and that he is convinced that everything will be alright.
He is just as cool, calm and confident as Cantona.
Sounds like Zlatan’s got a new fanboy, to go along with the thousands he’s already made in Manchester in the space of two months.
