Manchester United are ready to launch a bid to sign Paul Pogba next week.
Jose Mourinho has targeted the United midfield as an area for improvement, and sees bringing Pogba back to Old Trafford as the perfect way to improve his new team.
Pogba has long been linked with a move away from Juventus, and many expect this summer to be the time the Frenchman leaves Serie A in search of a new challenge.
One potential sticking point would normally be that Man United are not playing European football next season, but Pogba’s desire to work with Mourinho is enough to persuade the 23-year-old to give Old Trafford another crack.
Pogba left England in 2012 after growing frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities under Alex Ferguson, and making just three appearances for the Red Devils.
He then went on to become one of the world’s most coveted midfielders, and has also been linked with a move to PSG in the past 12 months.
Obviously he won’t come cheap, with a fee around £80m rumoured to be the asking price.
It’s a sum Ed Woodward and Mourinho will be happy to pay though, as Jose sees Pogba as a key player in his new-look United side.
Pairing Pogba in a three man midfield with Wayne Rooney and Morgan Schneiderlin (or Nemanja Matic, if that move happens), is what the Portuguese dreams of, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial lead the line up front.
Having already spent £30m on Eric Bailly, it’s clear Mourinho isn’t messing around when it comes to improving a United side that performed so poorly last season.
LVG’s signings and style of play look set to be binned, and it should be a hell of a lot more interesting watching the Red Devils under Mourinho’s stewardship next season.
