Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League campaign is hanging by a thread, after they lost 3-0 to Borussia Dortmund.
Spurs were comfortably outplayed by their classy German opponents, and goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus (twice) secured a straightforward win for BVB.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side now have it all to do in the return leg, and it’s fair to say the internet doesn’t think they’ll do it.
Here’s the best of the reaction:
The TV commentary wasn’t attracting plaudits:
Only Robbie Savage could ruin watching Dortmund vs Spurs

Aubameyang soon raised spirits though, and BVB proved that their Twitter account is as good as their football team:
And this guy just totally overreacted:

Aubameyang isn’t the modest type:
People soon started to question why Harry Kane wasn’t picked:
@FootyAccums How long until you bring Kane on. Seriously, resting for a villa game. They can borrow my nan to beat Villa.

And the statisticians proved Kane could have been handy:
Crazy stat from Tottenham game!
Spurs didn't get in the Dortmund box with the ball in first half… pic.twitter.com/m8TPCDiACg

Spurs finally did make it into the box, only for a penalty appeal to be turned away for a strange reason:
Son appeals for a penalty for Spurs. Nothing given as that fella stood behind the goal was feeding his tamagotchi at the time.

Reus then took over, scoring twice and prompting stupidity from the Americans:
This guy just seems bitter (think he’s an Arsenal fan?):
Dortmund in the PL would flop

At 3-0, Gary Lineker summed it up perfectly:
Watching Spurs getting spanked by Dortmund makes you realise that rotating your team rarely works.

At least Spurs can concentrate on the league now though…
