Poor old Arsenal.
They’re not having the best of luck this summer, as seemingly every striker in the world has turned them down as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
Arsene Wenger was probably looking forward to taking his players away to America for a pre-season tour, but even that has gone tits up.
That’s because a number of first team stars will miss the tour thanks to Euro 2016 and Copa America, and others are injured.
The latest absentee is Per Mertesacker, who has pulled out with a knee injury, and will join Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck on the treatment table at the Emirates.
Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud have all been given extended rest after international action this summer, and now Gabriel has got tonsillitis and won’t travel.
New signings Granit Xhaka and Rob Holding are expected to make their debuts against an MLS All-Star XI on Thursday, but Japanese striker Takuma Asano is on Olympic duty with his country.
That leaves Wenger’s options severely depleted, especially as he now has no recognised first choice centre backs at his disposal.
Looks like the Gunners boss just can’t catch a break right now…
