Jon Jones may have been released from jail on Thursday but it looks like his big rematch against Daniel Cormier at UFC 197 is now off.
Reports suggest that an injury to current light heavyweight champ Cormier has forced him to withdraw from the highly anticipated bout in Las Vegas, just three weeks away from the event.
While we were hoping this was just an ill-advised April Fools’ prank from BJPenn.com, who first reported the story, Fox Sports reported that sources close to the champion have confirmed the unfortunate news.

After Jones escaped jail time following his probation violation last week, UFC fans thought it cleared the way for his second fight against Cormier, but the injury to the champ has thrown a spanner in the works.
UFC 197 was due to be Jones’ first fight back in more than 15 months, since he fought and defeated Cormier back in January 2015 at UFC 182, following more than a year of legal troubles.
There is still no word on whether Jones will remain on the UFC 187 card, due to go down on April 23, but if his Instagram page is anything to go by, he’s definitely ready to go.
The UFC have yet to comment on the situation – likely because UFC President Dana White is busy banging his head against a wall at seeing yet another one of his big money title fights go up in smoke due to injury.
