Antonio Conte is starting to make his mark on his Chelsea squad.
Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante have signed for the Blues, as Conte tries to get his inherited side back into Europe this season, after finishing tenth last year.
The former Italy boss has shelled out over £60m so far this summer, but could be about to sell his first big name as Juventus eye Nemanja Matic.
The Old Lady see the Serbian midfielder as a replacement for Paul Pogba, who is closing in on a move to Manchester United. Chelsea have already signed Kante as Matic’s replacement, and Leicester have got Nampalys Mendy as Kante’s replacement.
Isn’t the transfer merry-go-round satisfying?
Matic was one of Chelsea’s best performers after signing for them from Benfica for £21m two seasons ago, but fell out of favour as the Blues struggled last season.
A Jose Mourinho signing, Matic was linked with a move to United earlier this summer, but with their pursuit for Pogba in its final stages, Italy looks like a good move for the 27-year-old.
The Serie A season starts two weeks after the Premier League, meaning Massimiliano Allegri has plenty of time to get Matic as Pogba’s replacement. That move is expected to be completed this week, after Pogba returns from holidaying in America.
Matic is available for £15m, so Chelsea are prepared to take a loss on the fee they paid Benfica just two years ago.
Roman Abramovich isn’t going to miss £6m though, as it’s basically pocket change to him.
Ah the transfer window, don’t you just love it?
