The good thing about the transfer window is the constant rumours linking your club with the most random players imaginable.

Remember when West Ham United signed Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano and nobody believed it until it happened?

Well now, there’s a new contender for the most baffling rumour of all time, as Manchester United eye up Joe Allen.

Yes, the Welsh Pirlo/Wee Joe.

Allen is set to leave Liverpool this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield, and a fee around £14m is enough to buy the man who has became a Premier League cult hero.

United are making serious moves for Paul Pogba, but see Allen as a potential backup target, should the £100m deal for the Juventus midfielder fall through at the last minute.

Should the move happen, Allen will be the first man to move from Liverpool to Man United in over 50 years, but not everyone will be happy – at least if Twitter is anything to go by.

In fairness, only one man got into UEFA’s Euro 2016 Team of the Tournament, so you can’t blame the United board for taking a look at the Welsh hero.

Just imagine Brendan Rodgers’ face when Wee Joe pulls on a United shirt…
