Football is full of bromances.
Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard, Gary Neville and David Beckham and everyone in the world and Joe Allen are just a few, but the relationship between Dimitri Payet and Slaven Bilic is heartwarming.
The Frenchman was one of the standout players of last season, and has carried his form into the Euros, where France take on Germany in the second semi final tonight.
Payet’s form has attracted the interest of some of the world’s biggest clubs, and Real Madrid are reportedly sniffing around the former Marseille man.
But Bilic has revealed that Payet sent him a text, saying he’s happy at West Ham United, and won’t be swapping London for Madrid anytime soon.
I know that the giant clubs will come but I would love him to stay at West Ham, we have texted each other over the last three weeks and he is happy at the club. He is our player.
As a club manager, when you have a player involved there is added interest and there is no doubt Dimitri Payet has been one of the stars of the tournament.
I understand that with his success, all the speculation about his future will follow.
Some people have also suggested that West Ham would be happy if Payet played badly for the rest of the Euros, but the Croatian boss quickly dismissed the theory.
I have seen one report suggesting I don’t want him to do well in case it leads to him leaving West Ham, that is not right.
I want him to play great. I want him to score a hat-trick and another hat-trick in the final.
The great thing for him is that he has maintained his high level of performance, which is really difficult when you play at the top level.
The news is certainly good for Hammers fans, who will want the talented 29-year-old to lead their team in the new Olympic Stadium next season.
