Welcome to the world of Air Sex, the new craze taking America by storm.
But what is Air Sex? Well, it’s exactly what it sounds like, people get on stage, fully clothed, and have sex with thin air in front of an audience, The Mirror reports.
The idea of having sex with an invisible partner reportedly started in Japan, obviously.
After it was introduced to America in 2007 it took off, with 30 to 40 events now held annually nationwide, as well as a bi-monthly competition held at The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas.
Comedian Chris Trew, 34, is the host of the Air Sex World Championships. He recently made a documentary about them called Air Sex – The Movie, which follows the competition as it tours round North America.
Trew told AL.com:
The world takes sex too seriously, right? So that’s one of the reasons why we enjoy what we’re doing with the show so much.
We also feel like sex can be gross or awkward or weird or funny so let’s get creative with how we showcase that in a comedy show.
So there you go, next time you get a weird look for having sex with the air in a park, tell the haters you’re an elite athlete in training for a big competition and get back to it.
