Fans at Euro 2016 have had a mixed reputation.
The violence that threatened to overshadow the whole tournament in the early stages will not be forgotten, despite the Icelandic Viking chant and lovable Irish fans becoming the headline makers in the latter stages of the competition.
However, after Portugal shocked France by winning the final, courtesy of a screamer from Eder, one young Portuguese fan stole everyone’s heart by consoling a disappointed Frenchman, in the ultimate act of sportsmanship.
Check it out:
Portugal claimed the win after 120 minutes of action, despite being forced to play the majority of the game without their talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Real Madrid star’s knee injury looked to have ruined Portugal’s chances of victory, but in the same season that Leicester City stunned the world by lifting the Premier League trophy, Ronaldo and his country won the holy grail and tasted international success.
Of course, that meant the French could not celebrate a victory on home soil, and as you can see from the video, hundreds were left dejected.
Luckily though, not all fans like to rub it in and thanks to one of the younger supporters in the fan park, we were reminded how amazing football can be at times.
