AI creates a family portrait from countries around the world and people are shocked

Viewers are divided by controversial AI family portraits from around the world.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is up to its usual crowd-dividing antics by creating family portraits from countries around the world.

From developing what the 'perfect' man and woman might look like to turning Shrek into a horror movie from the 80s - there really is no limit to AI's capabilities these days.

And now, a digital artist has used cutting edge generative AI Midjourney to create a series of controversial family portraits from various countries around the globe, and Reddit users have been reacting brilliantly to the pics. Have a look:

"Hong Kong and China having 2 children is sus," one Redditor joked.

UK:

For the UK portrait, one user joked: "Nah. No way a single dad is raising four kids in this post 2008 economy."

USA:

Americans thought their pic was spot on, with one commenting: "USA is so true. We love to put our flag on everything."

India:

"No Indian kid wears Saree as a daily attire. Maybe a couple of times a year for special occasions," one person correctly pointed out.

Georgia:

Many Redditors thought AI got Georgia completely wrong, with one saying: "Georgia looks like a mashup of the country and the US state."

And a second added: "Georgian here. That family looks 0% Georgian."

Well, amid the never-ending capabilities of AI, it seems the biggest tech chiefs in the game want to pause its development due to its 'profound risks'.

Billionaire, Elon Musk has joined the likes of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Skype co-founder Jaan Tallinn, who have all signed an open letter demanding that all labs training AI systems stop for at least six months.

"Recent months have seen AI labs locked in an out-of-control race to develop and deploy ever more powerful digital minds that no-one – not even their creators – can understand, predict or reliably control," the letter reads.

"Powerful AI systems should be developed only once we are confident that their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable."

They have called for researchers to focus on making sure the technology is accurate, safe and transparent.

The letter added: “Humanity can enjoy a flourishing future with AI. Having succeeded in creating powerful AI systems, we can now enjoy an ‘AI summer’ in which we reap the rewards, engineer these systems for the clear benefit of all and give society a chance to adapt.

“Society has hit pause on other technologies with potentially catastrophic effects on society. We can do so here. Let’s enjoy a long AI summer, not rush unprepared into a fall.”
