According to reports, Twitter are set to bring in a new algorithmic timeline as early as next week, and people have really not reacted well to the news.
Buzzfeed News reports that the new timeline would replace the current reverse-chronological feed and give Twitter a way to elevate popular content to the top of people’s feeds, much like how Facebook currently operates.
The change is supposedly a way for Twitter to grow their platform but social media users are pretty pissed off about the whole thing, complaining it will make the site like Facebook, which sort of defeats the point of why people use it in the first place.
Hilariously, the hashtag #RIPTwitter is now trending… on Twitter.

Twitter to reorder timeline based on what it thinks people want to see. Damn. I want people to see things they don't want to see.

Turning Twitter into Facebook is not the way. The reason we use Twitter is because we don't like Facebook #RIPTwitter

Damn it, Twitter. First changing ‘favourites’ to ‘likes’, now this. Stop actively trying to make your site worse!
There are reports, however, that the new feature could be opt-in only, so all this outrage could be slightly premature.
Let’s hope so, because we really don’t like change and we couldn’t cope with this.
