It looks like everyone’s favourite TV duo may be ready to sensationally quit ITV and join an online streaming service when their current contracts end.
Award winning presenters Ant & Dec currently front ITV shows Britain’s Got Talent, I’m A Celebrity… and Saturday Night Takeaway but, according to the Daily Mail, they’ve now revealed that they may leave to join either Amazon Prime or Netflix when their three-year contracts expire at the end of 2016.
The two reportedly earned a whopping £8.4 million last year alone for their work fronting the channel’s primetime shows, but it appears they may soon be seeking out an even better offer to front a new show online.
Speaking to The Sun, Dec said:
Shows like Britain’s Got Talent bring the whole family together which is kind of irreplaceable on those streaming services. But there’s room for both. The big difference is the amount of money your Netflixes and your Amazon Primes have to spend.
Well we’re in the last year of our contract so that would be very unfair of me to say – wouldn’t it?
The pair then added to the speculation, saying cryptically: “Who knows where we are going to be”.
Earning millions each year, the lads have come a long way since they were earning around £100 a day in the early 90s as PJ and Duncan on Byker Grove.
Given how important these two are to the channel, we expect ITV will be digging deep in their pockets to try and hold on to the loveable duo. The last thing they’ll want is Ant & Dec joining Clarkson, Hammond and May over at Amazon Prime!
