Video footage has emerged of the moment a suspected paedophile was caught by a group of vigilante paedophile hunters claiming to be affiliated with hackers Anonymous.
Michael Harper, 34, was confronted at a train station by the group when he arrived to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl. However he was in fact met by men from a group calling themselves Anon United Paedo Hunters (AUPH) who were wearing the Guy Fawkes masks associated with Anonymous.
The group say they caught Harper by posing online as two teenage girls called Chloe and Lisa, and passing a record of the correspondence between Harper and the fictional girls to the police. Harper, living in a hostel in Bangor at the time of his arrest, admitted to both sexually grooming a 14-year-old girl and two charges of attempting to arrange the commission of a child sex offence at Caernarfon Crown Court.
AUPH member Emerald Blaze, who claims to have six fictional social media profiles of young girls, described his methods for trapping potential paedophiles:
You just have to give them one word answers saying “I’m fine” and tell them you’ve had a bad day at school. You’ll get responses like “You can talk to me”. It depends on how far they want to go. Some of them want to do things to the kids – what they believe is a 14-year-old child. Michael Harper dug so much of a grave that he was begging for the bait.
