Street art has gone through a few different phases. There’s the graffiti writing and murals, there ‘AL WOZ ERE’ on bus stops in felt pen, there’s Banksy and Banksy rip offs, there’s those drawings on the floor that look amazing from a specific angle… And now there’s these, which you can only see in the rain.
Peregrine Church is making this new kind of art using an awesome technique. Rainworks.
He uses a super hydrophobic spray that repels water, and puts it on the floor using a stencil.
After seeing a video on YouTube showing off the water repellent spray, where it showed red wine and chocolate pour straight off white shoes, Peregrine had the idea of the spray having the same effect on the floor with the rain.
And it works!
The local authorities may or may not like his work, but if they want to get rid of it, they’re going to struggle to even find it. During the time when it’s dry, it is completely invisible, and when it rains, they’re gonna have a very difficult time cleaning it when it’s wet!
It’s really simple, but so striking and effective.
Nice work Peregrine.
