Drugs. Money. Sex. Sounds like the tagline for Scarface 2, but in reality it’s what the initials of one of New York’s most infamous gangs, DMS, stands for.
If you do a quick Google search for DMS, then not all that much will come up. However if you delve a little deeper into the many obscure forums that the web has to offer, you’ll find a lot about the notorious crew. Lots of rumours and horror stories – basically, they’re not very nice guys.
Gavin McInnes is the self-confessed Godfather of Hipster. In 1994 he founded the Voice of Montreal – along with Shane Smith and Suroosh Alvi – which later became Vice in 1996.
He also joined DMS.
Since leaving Vice, the controversial comedian now hosts his own online talk show, The Gavin McInnes Show, while also being a regular speaker on Fox News.
He starts the tale of how he joined the gang relatively lightly, talking about how if you go out a lot New York City, inevitably you want to hang out with the ‘baddest dudes’. And yep, he finds them. DMS.
In Gavin’s own words:
They’re a fucking huge organisation. They sell coke mostly I believe. I could get killed for telling this probably. But I want it to be a good story so.
Soon enough he gets initiated, with his own nickname, ‘Ottawa Gary’, before shit gets serious.
We wont ruin it for you, but when a certain somebody gets stabbed with a 4 foot screwdriver then yep, things get out of hand…
