Heroic Navy SEAL Shot 27 Times, Now Planning To Run Triathlon To Raise Money For Vets

The word hero is used so much these days we could be forgiven for becoming desensitized to what it actually means, but one American man, Mike Day, defines it perfectly.

The former US Navy SEAL was not only shot a massive 27 times by Al-Qaeda when on tour in Iraq back in 2007, but he also understandably suffered from PTSD, yet managed to recover enough to now be training for a triathlon to raise money for the hospital he spent the bulk of said recovery in.

The hospital of choice is the Carrick Brain Centres, who helped the Purple Heart winner with the effects of his trauma after he recovered from wounds all over his body, including being shot in both arms and legs, having to wear a colostomy bag for a year, fractured ribs and contusions on his lungs.

The centre specialise in working not only with veterans who have suffered brain injuries, but also kids as well, and Day aims to raise $75,000 – of which he has now only got $10,000 left to raise – and if you want to help, you can donate here.
