ISIS have released a video and a statement online taking responsibility for the terrorist attacks in Paris which have left at least 127 people dead.
Islamic State have claimed that the coordinated suicide bombings and shootings across six locations in the French capital were just “the beginning of the storm”.
The group released statements in both Arabic and French, saying “eight brothers wearing explosive belts and carrying assault rifles” conducted a “blessed attack” on Paris.
They claim the attacks were an act of revenge for France’s involvement in the U.S.-led coalition bombing of ISIS militants in Syria and Iraq.
In an audio message released in English by the group, the speaker said:
A group of believers from the soldiers of the Caliphate set out targeting the capital of prostitution and vice, the lead carrier of the cross in Europe, Paris. They divorced worldly life and advanced towards their enemy hoping to killed for Allah’s sake…and his allies. Allah granted victory upon their hands and cast terror into the hearts of the crusaders in their very own homeland.
The depraved group also claimed the targets across the city were “precisely chosen”, and described the targeted attack on the sold-out Eagles of Death Metal concert at the Bataclan concert hall, where at least 80 music fans were shot dead, as the “hundreds of pagans gathered for a concert of prostitution and vice”.
After celebrating the attacks on social media, ISIS also released an undated video on Saturday – although believed to be from 2014 – in which they threaten to attack France if bombings of its fighters continue.
Flanked by other fighters, a bearded Arabic-speaking militant is reported to say:
As long as you keep bombing you will not live in peace. You will even fear travelling to the market.
Of course, ISIS would have accepted responsibility for these attacks regardless so take their words with a pinch of salt, although French President Francois Hollande has attributed the attacks to the terror group and called the attacks an “act of war”.
