Pokémon GO has officially taken over the world and now it’s even infiltrated the realm of mixed martial arts.
Last night, Bellator 158 came to the O2 Arena in London and hometown hero Michael ‘Venom’ Page sent the crowd into raptures when he landed a brutally pinpoint flying knee to put opponent Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos out for the count.
Santos was hit with the perfectly timed knee when he ducked in for a takedown, four-and-a-half minutes into the second round.
As if the knee wasn’t brilliant enough, however, MVP then won the Internet for the night when he slapped on a Pokémon trainer cap, grabbed a pokéball, and rolled it towards his fallen foe, in an apparent attempt to catch the beast he had just defeated in battle.
In his post-fight interview, Page explained simply: “For all the Pokemon lovers, I just caught myself a Cyborg.”
Although MVP found success in his home nation though, it proved to be a torrid night for the British fighters overall – Paul Daley, Oli Thompson and Alex Reid (remember him?) all tasted defeat in the Bellator cage last night.
I guess they just didn’t have what it takes to be the very best, like no one ever was…
