In a week where law enforcement officers are getting a fair bit of stick, one policeman has been in the news for all the right reasons after saving the life of a baby girl.
After Albuquerque Police Department received a call to tell them that a baby had stopped breathing, they sent officer Martin Smith to the scene, and not only did the grandfather of six manage to save the girl, who at that point was unconscious, but his body cam captured the whole thing.
Footage of CPR on the seven month old girl has now gone viral and the officer has been lauded for his efforts, with the parents of the young baby obviously grateful he saved her life, and the internet community praising Smith.
The girl’s mother, Alyssia Rios, claimed:
He did save my daughter’s life.
If it wasn’t for him, who knows where she would’ve been or what would’ve happened. He got there quick. He ran up to my front door and he had her.
According to the police department’s Facebook page, the little girl was taken to hospital by paramedics and is now ‘doing great’, which is obviously a massive relief for all concerned.
