In your typical Friday morning news story, a New Zealand politician got a rude awakening when he was smacked in the face by a flying dildo.

A woman threw the sex toy at Economic Minister Steven Joyce in protest against the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).

Justifying her actions, in the aftermath of her hilarious attack, Josie Butler shouted: “That’s for raping our country, because of the TPPA and selling away our rights and our freedom. I did it for our country.”

To be fair, Joyce turned the other cheek and took it on the chin, both literally and figuratively, and he seemed to see the funny side of the bizarre attack.

He wrote on Twitter:

Speaking to TVNZ, he added:

Fair to say I don’t think those sorts of things happen everyday. We actually thought it was a little bit humorous at the end of it all. New experiences in politics everyday, it’s the privilege of serving.

According to the Independent, the TPPA has been criticised for the ongoing secrecy of negotiations, which the public have no access to, and for the effects it may have on democracy, jobs and food safety.

Hey, they say sex sells and it looks like those against TPPA can thank a well aimed vibrator for getting more eyes on an important issue.
