In perhaps the worst TV interview in the history of humankind, an Italian priest actually attempted to justify paedophilia within the Catholic church and even placed the blame on the child victims themselves.
Don Gino Flaim, 75, of the diocese of Trento in Northern Italy, allegedly claimed it’s the kids “who seek affection” who were at fault for tempting the adults.
Unsurprisingly, Flaim was swiftly removed from his position and banned from preaching after his horrendous comments were aired on the private La 7 network on Tuesday.
In the TV interview, Flaim said:
Unfortunately there are children who seek affection because they don’t get it at home and then if they find some priest he can even give in [to the temptation]. I understand this.
He was then asked whether he thought the children themselves were in any way responsible for paedophilia, and replied: “In many cases, yes”.
And, just when you thought this couldn’t get any worse, Flaim added that while he could “understand” paedophilia, he just couldn’t fathom the “sickness” of homosexuality.
The diocese has since distanced itself from Flaim’s outrageous comments, stating that his opinions are completely opposite “to the sentiments of the entire church community” on child sex abuse.
We’d bloody well hope so, to be honest!
