Another day, another beloved childhood videogame memory remade in the shiny HD glow of Unreal Engine 4. This time, it’s the Kanto Region from the original Pokémon games.

Sonic, Mario, Link, Samus, and loads more familiar locations and characters have now been rendered in Unreal Engine 4, usually driven by an endearing sense of curiosity. One can only imagine that eventually we’ll run out of things to show off, and we’ll start watching videos of Shigeru Miyamoto on the toilet in Unreal Engine 4, just because we can.

But that day is not today, as we explore the land millions of gamers spent hours squinting at on murky Game Boy screens, now on display in glorious high definition. Check it out in the video below.

Credit for this one goes to Preston Dunagan, who has really managed to nail the details in this faithful recreation of everybody’s favourite Poké destination. An entirely one man project, Dunagan has spent the past seven months putting this little gem together, working on all materials, models, and assets himself. You might say it’s… unreal (sorry not sorry).
