A shocking video has been released as part of a road traffic safety campaign, and it shows just why it’s so important to wear a seatbelt while in the car.
The short clip also demonstrates why parents should make sure they invest in a good quality car seat for their children.
The real-life footage has been released in a bid to urge people in Malaysia to make sure everyone in the car – be they adults or children – is securely buckled up while travelling.
The clip shows a car travelling behind a truck – a baby and a passenger are sat in the back seat, while another passenger and the driver are in the front. The baby is safely strapped into a car seat, but the woman sitting beside the child isn’t wearing a seatbelt.
Suddenly, the truck brakes and the driver is forced to slam on his own brakes. The adult in the back is launched forward, which doesn’t look pleasant at all. The baby, however, barely moves thanks to how secure the car seat is.
Although there don’t appear to be any injuries in the incident, it’s clear the situation could have been far worse had the car been travelling faster at the time.
According to the Mirror Online, the video follows a report by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research in May, which found that a mere seven to nine per cent of people in the country wear their seatbelt when sitting in the back of a car.
Hopefully this footage will remind not only Malaysians of how important it is to wear a seatbelt, but everyone around the world.
