Rollercoasters are terrifying enough without the fear of what might happen when you’re riding one while completely naked in the freezing cold. So hats (and everything else) off to these nude thrill seekers for doing just that!
And, although the group failed in their bid to set a new world record, they raised an incredible £10,000 for charity.
Nude enthusiasts set the Guinness World Record in 2010 when 102 clotheless thrill seekers rode the Green Scream at Adventure Island in Southend.
Five years on from that record setting ride, 57 people celebrated that original up-and-down experience by riding the same attraction in the nip, in support of Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation’s Keyhole Cancer Appeal.
Adventure Island operations director Andrew Renton said:
It’s been an absolutely superb day with people all enjoying the chance to do something memorable, good fun and raise a large amount of money for a fantastic, local charity. We’ve heard some amazing stories from so many who have been directly, or indirectly, affected by cancer and wanted to give something back.
I am really proud Adventure Island could offer them this opportunity. Admittedly it would have been nice to have bettered our record – but we are still the World Record holders at the end of the day.
It was hoped 122 people would show up to take part in the ride but, despite the relatively low turnout, people still travelled from across the UK to get involved in the challenge, including from as far wide as Edinburgh, Newcastle and Swindon.
Plus, 57 nude riders still made for quite the sight, to be fair!
Lucy Thomas-Clayton, from Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation, added:
It takes a lot of nerve to take off all your clothes in front of complete strangers, plus the world’s media. We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who was brave enough to bare all and raise such a huge amount of cash for our vitally important cause.
