The biggest private video game collection in the world, of over 11,000 individual games, has been sold for $0.75 million online.
Never mind the amount of money involved, we’re not sure who has that many empty shelves to buy that many video games all in one auction.
But lucky bidder ‘Peeps_10091970′ is now the proud owner of what the Guinness Book of World Records verifies is the largest video game collection in the world.
Although it did that when the collection ‘only’ consisted of 10,607 games, and since then owner Michael Thommason, of Buffalo, New York, has acquired over four hundred extra titles.
More than 2,600 of the games are factory sealed and over 8,300 come with both the box and manual.
But Thommason has finally given up the collecting bug and the whole job lot of them were put on auction site GameGavel, where they sold for $750,250 (£442,710). There were 56 bidders, with a starting bid of just $1.
Peeps_10091970 not only gets all the games but also the Guinness Book of Records certificate and a lifetime subscription to Retro magazine (including a signed copy of the first issue – which also features the collection itself).
