A woman has been arrested after she reportedly gave birth in a Subway toilet before abandoning the baby and walking out ten minutes later.
According to the Mirror, CCTV footage shows a woman entering the West Covina branch of Subway’s bathroom at 8:07am before exiting ten minutes later, looking over her shoulder, and leaving.
Mary Grace Trinidad, 38, who is reported to be homeless, has now been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and child abandonment after officers tracked her down by following a trail of blood, reports USA Today.
An employee found the crying newborn baby in the bathroom after seeing the bleeding woman walk out of the restaurant.
In 911 call audio provided by the police the employee can be heard to say: “We tried to keep her in and she just walked out, and there’s a crying baby in the restroom.” The dispatcher then directs the caller to wrap the child in towels from the restaurant.
The baby – a boy – was found partially submerged in the toilet water, and the placenta had been placed in a bathroom bin. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but according to police is recovering and is now doing well.
Trinidad reportedly already had a warrant out for her arrest at the time due to alleged drug offences and she has been remanded in custody.
