Last week, Zara Holland made headlines after she had sex with housemate Alex Bowen on Love Island – and she was stripped of her Miss Great Britain title because of it.
Now, she’s claiming that the Love Island shagfest that lost her the crown was the ‘biggest mistake’ of her life – not something Bowen wants to hear, I’m sure.
Speaking on the ITV chat show Lorraine, Zara said she now regretted her behaviour:
I’m not making an excuse, I know I’m my own person and I made that decision, but literally it was in the moment and it was the biggest mistake ever.
Explaining what happened to presenter Lorraine Kelly, the 20-year-old said:
I was in the moment, I was in the Hideaway. I’d had a few glasses of wine, but I’m not blaming it on that.Advertisement
Earlier on that day we had a challenge and it was mates rates and the new boys got to rate everyone in order of which was the hottest girl and how much banter there was in the group and I was the fourth fittest girl and I didn’t apparently have much banter.
And I started to think ‘Oh no, am I not that fun or am I not that pretty?’ It’s sort of everything that day contributed to it.
Sounds like a terrible game, but fair enough. Low self esteem got the best of her.
But considering the reality show’s name and nature, you would assume Miss Great Britain organisers would assume that Zara would probably have sex at some point.
Pageant organisers claim, though, that they had given permission for the now former Miss GB to appear on the show on the condition that she wouldn’t engage in sexual activity.
Zara, on the other hand, thinks otherwise. She added:
They never said to me I couldn’t have sex on TV. They gave a written permission and in that it never said anything.
So it seems like it’s all a case of broken telephone, and the consequences were pretty massive for Zara.
Social media, on the other hand, has been split on the matter:
Kind of disappointed watching @ITVLorraine and Zara Holland. Why is she being shamed? Why are women still shamed for making an adult choice?Advertisement

Feel for Zara Holland! Yes she's been a bit silly but not fair to take something away from her she has worked hard for ! #LoveIsland

Zara Holland is a sexually empowered woman and doesn't deserve this kind of public embarrassment – wouldn't happen to a man #everydaysexism

Although she quit the show after her mother fell ill, just days after news of the ‘sex scandal’ broke, Zara claimed she has ‘no plans to return’ to the villa, but did admit that when it came to Love Island you never know what could happen, the Mirror reports.
But over 10,000 people have signed a petition to get Zara reinstated, so who knows? We may just see Zara back on the show soon.
