If you watch Love Island, you’ll know Zara Holland recently had sex with a housemate – an act you’d think is a pretty normal occurrence considering the reality show’s name.

But, apparently, even though Miss Great Britain organisers knew she would be a contestant, they didn’t expect her to actually have sex on the show that is most known for people having sex. And she’s been stripped of her Miss GB title for it.

Zara spent the night with Vicky Pattison’s ex-boyfriend Alex Bowen – after he’d only been in the villa for a day – and apparently immediately regretted her actions. The pageant’s organisers did too.

Releasing a statement on the incident, the Miss Great Britain Organisation said:

Following recent actions within ITV2 show Love Island is is with deep regret that we, the Miss Great Britain Organisation, have to announce that Zara Holland has formally been de-crowned as Miss Great Britain.

As an organisation we have not taken this decision lightly, we are close to all of our winners and wherever possibly stand by them during their rein. That said, we feel we have no choice but to make this decision under the circumstances.

The feedback we have received from pageant insiders and members of the general public is such that we cannot promote Zara as a positive role model moving forward.

We wholly understand that everyone makes mistakes, but Zara, as an ambassador for Miss Great Britain, simply did not uphold the responsibility expected of the title.

The organisation had also stated that the 1st runner up, Deone Robertson, will be Miss GB for the remainder of the year. But the worst part? Miss GB organisers decided to tell everyone else before they told Zara.

People are backing Zara, though, pointing out that, quite simply, there’s nothing wrong with having sex:

Even Caroline Flack backed her up:

Others found it amusing:

And this person made a good point:

What still makes no sense, though, is that she can be photographed naked, but as soon as she has sex on TV, it’s game over:

So while it may be seen that having sex on TV isn’t within Miss Great Britain Organisation’s morals rulebook, was it really justified to strip her of her title? Those who care seem to think not.
