For this guy, a boozy night out in Essex ended up with him £1,000 out of pocket and and 900 miles away in Barcelona.
Alexander Caviel, 21, downed a dozen Jagerbombs, Disaranno and coke and a £90 bottle of champagne before he decided to fly to Spain – and, understandably, he doesn’t remember a thing.
Caviel said that after losing his friend in the early hours of the morning, he went out to find some late night food and spotted a bus heading to nearby Stansted airport.
[I stopped] at a chicken shop which is next to the bus station.
I remember thinking to myself, ‘it would be nice to fly away somewhere’.
And it pretty much went downhill (or uphill – depending on how you look at it) from there.
Caviel claims he has no knowledge of getting on the bus and booking a £200 flight to Barcelona with his phone. He said: “The next thing I had a really vivid dream that I was on a plane – it was very, very realistic, but I didn’t think much of it and just went back to sleep.”
It wasn’t a dream, though, and he had only realised what he had done when the plane landed in Barcelona.
And rather than rushing back to England, the 21-year-old decided to embrace his massive error in judgement and enjoy the sights and nightclubs in a four-day impromptu trip. He even called his dad, who apparently thought it was hilarious.
His mum, on the other hand, didn’t believe him. She said: “We first heard from him on Saturday morning, and he just said ‘mum, don’t worry I’m not in any danger, but I am in Barcelona, and I’m not sure how I got here’.
“I didn’t believe him at all, so we went on FaceTime and I just thought ‘Oh my God’.”
And although all he had on him when he landed was the clothes he was wearing and a WHSmith bag, he managed to go for VIP nights out, explore the city, visit an aquarium, and take a cable car into the mountains. Caviel said he also wanted to take a helicopter ride, but decided he better not as he had already splashed enough cash. That’s for sure.
He finally returned home on Tuesday – no doubt with plenty of stories.
