Mysterious Wolf-Like Creature Shot Dead In The US
A ‘mythical’ wolf-like creature has been shot dead by a rancher in the US.
The poor animal was shot as it apparently approached the rancher’s livestock in Denton, Montana.
Theories doing the rounds online suggest it could be a werewolf, a young grizzly bear or a relative of Bigfoot. Right.
According to a post on the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 4 Facebook page, the animal could not possibly be a ‘purebred wolf’ for a number of reasons.
The post reads:
Here’s what is not in question: The animal came within several hundred yards of the rancher’s livestock. He shot it and reported it as required by law.
The animal was a young, non-lactating female and a canid, a member of the dog family, which includes dogs, foxes, coyotes and wolves.
Those facts are not unusual in Montana’s farm and ranch county.
The animal originally was reported as a wolf, but several Fish, Wildlife and Parks’ wolf specialists looked at photos of the animal and collectively doubted it was a purebred wolf: the canine teeth were too short, the front paws too small and the claws on the front paw were too long.
The post continues:
Nevertheless, social media was quick to pronounce the animal as everything from a wolf to a wolf hybrid to something mythical.
Rather than guess, FWP sent the carcass to the Department’s lab in Bozeman where tissue samples will be collected, then shipped to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Laboratory in Ashland, Org.
In a laboratory, scientists extract DNA from cells, looking for markers specific to individual species. Those markers are then compared to samples of known species on hand.
While the process may take a week, just getting to that stage may take weeks or months, depending on the laboratory’s backlog of cases.
All of which means it may be awhile before the anyone really knows what the animal near Denton really was.
According to the Great Falls Tribune, the information manager for the park said it’s a waiting game.
Bruce Auchly said:
We have no idea what this was until we get a DNA report back. It was near a rancher’s place, it was shot, and our game wardens went to investigate.
The whole animal was sent to our lab in Bozeman. That’s the last I ever heard of it.
Speculation has since suggested the animal is a crypto-canid species believed to roam the forests of North America, with one person saying:
That could very well be what’s being called Dogman. They’re spotted each day and the government quells any and all reports.
Several people report being strong armed into keeping quiet about their reports by men wearing black suits. These are just facts. Look into if if you don’t believe it.
I guess we’ll have to just sit tight and wait then…
