So the amazing news has landed – there will be a Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in the bag, but there’s a huge catch which could potentially change everything…
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 hasn’t even been released yet, but there’s already been huge speculation about a potential third film.
While the great news is director James Gunn has confirmed it will definitely be a thing, he also dropped a huge bombshell on us he might not be the one to do it…
He told Complex:
There will be a Guardians 3, that’s for sure.
But it seems Gunn is unsure if he’s the man for the job, after having had the direction of two of the sci-fi, marvel films successfully under his belt.
He explained to Complex:
We’re trying to figure it out.
I’m trying to figure out what I want to do really, that’s all it is. I got to figure out where I want to be, what I want to spend the next three years of my life doing.
You know, I’m going to make another big movie; is it the Guardians or something else? I’m just going to figure it out over the next couple of weeks.
Wow, so on the one-hand he delivers this fantastic piece of news, but in the other he takes it away and throws everything into the balance.
So he’s basically saying he might not be the one to direct the franchise for a third time, but what can this mean? And who might it mean will take the reins?
There are so many questions which are left painfully unanswered.
Here’s the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 to keep you going:
Perhaps he will give it one last crack though, as he did also tell Complex ‘the most creatively fulfilling, freeing experience I’ve ever had making a film has been on Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. Without a doubt.’
Well that’s somewhat reassuring at least.
For now we will have to shelve that thought and just enjoy Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 when it drops in the UK on April 28.
