While we mourn the loss of the Wolverine franchise, it turns out Jackman is gone from the Marvel multiverse, but not forgotten.
During their promotional tour of the upcoming alien thriller, Life, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were obviously asked about the Deadpool sequel – and the possibility of a Hugh Jackman or Wolverine cameo.
We already know that Ryan Reynolds has been channelling us all and camping outside of Jackman’s house in a desperate attempt to make the crossover happen, as the Australian actor previously told UNILAD film.
While a Wolverine cameo looks pretty unlikely – despite Deadpool’s majestic appearance in the Logan prelude – apparently writer duo Reese and Wernick haven’t ruled Jackman out of the cast entirely.
A creative soul at The Hollywood Reporter pitched an idea to Reese and Wernick, suggesting Jackman could appear as… Wait for it… Jackman himself.
Rhett Reese – potentially dripping with sarcasm – replied:
Oh my gosh, that’s one we haven’t heard. That’s not a bad idea. I like that. Deadpool lives in a world where Hugh Jackman is out there.
He’s got the People‘s Sexiest Man Alive cover that he staples to his forehead in the first movie, so maybe he could meet Hugh as Hugh. That would be really funny.
Reese confirmed the duo are ‘very close to a draft that we’ll go off and shoot in a couple of months’ and ‘couldn’t be more thrilled’.
The fourth wall-smashing Merc with the mouth is pencilled for a 2018 comeback.
Meanwhile, you can watch Reese and Wernick’s mastery in the trailer for Life below:
By the looks of their burgeoning romance, Reynolds is taking solace in current co-star, Jake Gyllenhaal’s arms.
If you can wait for Deadpool 2, Life is in cinemas nationwide now.
