Football legend Neymar has come under fire for his ‘idiotic’ tribute to visionary physicist Stephen Hawking which he posted to Twitter.
The PSG star took to social media with a post which showed him topless in a wheelchair and a protective boot on his foot.
He shared the image with a quote from Hawking on overcoming difficulties in life.
Você tem que ter uma atitude positiva e tirar o melhor da situação na qual se encontra.

You need to have a positive attitude and take the most from every situation you find yourself in.
Neymar is currently off injured with a broken metatarsal bone in his foot, so is resting in preparation for the 2018 Brazil World Cup.
Needless to say, the tweet hasn’t gone down well with fans online, considering Neymar was comparing his own injury to the visionary physicist’s battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

One Twitter user wrote (translated by Bing translat0r):
The idiotic egg-drooling Mania of those who play the victim, the phrase was creating by someone who suffered a very serious disease that could have ended his life, but on the contrary it did not limit anything and the guy was a genius anyway.
No doubt the tweet was not ill intentioned, but the message was so misguided that fans have dubbed the whole thing idiotic.
Professor Hawking passed away peacefully at his home in the early hours of the morning on March 14, his family said.
The genius was known for his work on black holes and relativity. He wrote the seminal A Brief History Of Time.
At the age of 22, Professor Hawking was given only years to live after being diagnosed with a rare form of Motor Neurone Disease but managed to fight it to the grand old age of 76.
His children Lucy, Robert and Tim said in a statement:
He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years.
He once said, ‘It would not be much of a universe if it wasn’t home to the people you love.’
We will miss him forever.
The world has joined together in tributes for the legendary scientist, but no tribute captures the essence of the loss felt around the world like NASA’s.
Remembering Stephen Hawking, a renowned physicist and ambassador of science. His theories unlocked a universe of possibilities that we & the world are exploring.
May you keep flying like superman in microgravity, as you said to astronauts on @Space_Station in 2014.

They also shared a video tribute to the British theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author who dedicated his life to answering the questions of the universe.
Hawking was Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology within the University of Cambridge, whose scientific works include a collaboration with Roger Penrose on gravitational singularity theorems in the framework of general relativity.
He put forward the theoretical prediction stating black holes emit radiation, which is now often called Hawking radiation.
We have lost a colossal mind and a wonderful spirit. Rest in peace, Stephen Hawking. https://t.co/ectv7r4UIm

While Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the world wide web, said:
We have lost a colossal mind and a wonderful spirit. Rest in peace, Stephen Hawking.
Hawking was an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a lifetime member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States.
The world feels a lot less intelligent without him in it, and the legacy of one of the greatest minds of a generation will live on for some time.
