In Partnership With KFC
Chicken lovers rejoice – KFC has got something very exciting up its sleeve.
Today, 19 July, KFC once again makes history by launching the Zinger Double Down for the first time ever on UK and Irish soil.
While the Original Recipe Double Down quickly became a favourite among customers, the Zinger Double Down is sure to attract even more attention as the bunless sandwich makes its way across the country from 23 July.
To celebrate the launch, fans travelled the length of breadth of the UK for an exclusive preview of the new burger at a central London restaurant. As they queued up for a first taste, the serving counter was set on fire in a show-stealing illusion before the first Zingers were served.
The surprise news is sure to delight fans as the Original Recipe Double Down will only be available until 22 July.
Instead, the bunless sandwich of dreams has now had an all-new, unexpected spicy makeover. However, you’ll have to act fast – available for just three weeks from 23 July, these guys aren’t going to last long.
In case you’re unaware of what a Double Down is exactly, let me explain. Ever wondered what the bread is for around a burger? Yeah it tastes alright, but essentially it’s just a vessel to hold the contents. Well, what if your burger was held in fried chicken? That’s right, chicken instead of bread: a taste sensation.
Featuring two fiery-hot Zinger chicken fillets, Double Down signature crispy bacon and melted cheese, slathered with hot salsa and pepper mayo, the new addition to KFC’s menu is sure to hit the spot.
A spokesperson for KFC said:
Ever since we first launched Double Down in the UK, our fans have been calling out for a Zinger edition. We listened. The fiery heat of our Zinger is iconic and one of our best-loved flavours, so we totally agreed it was a no brainer to launch this as a Double Down.
We’ve stayed pretty tight-lipped on our plans to go Zinger as we wanted to take our biggest fans by surprise… hopefully our insurers enjoyed the flaming counter surprise too!
The Zinger Double Down will be available from 23 July to 12 August, with prices starting from £4.79 or £5.79 with fries and a drink.
KFC revealed that when it first launched the original Double Down, one was sold every second at its peak, with more than 2.5 million Double Downs sold in the six weeks it was available last year – sizzling up as the fastest selling KFC burger of all time.
The Zinger Double Down therefore has a lot to live up to, but we’re pretty confident it’ll go down an absolute treat.
