Dianna Agron addresses decade-long speculation about relationship with Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has been linked to all sorts of stars over the years, from fellow singers to movie stars and, apparently, actors from Glee.

Fans haven't been able to resist trying to figure out whether Swift's songs are aimed at specific people, and if so, who.

I'm sure you'll all remember when Jake Gyllenhaal found himself in the firing line for a second time when Swift released 'All Too Well (Taylor's Version)'.

And the same happened to Dianna Agron as people honed in on her when Swift released her 2012 single '22'.

The Glee star, who played Quinn in the musical series, was believed to have been an inspiration for the track as she appears in the liner notes - the notes that come in booklets with CDs - for the song.

More than a decade after the song was released, Agron addressed her link with Swift in an interview with Rolling Stone in which she was asked about being the supposed inspiration.

And if you had hopes for a romance between the pair, then I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed.

Agron responded: "Me? Oh, if only!"

She continued: "That's more because of a friendship than being the inspiration for the song. But I would not be the person to ask about that. I cannot claim that!"

The interviewer went on to tell Agron that fans had 'shipped' her and Swift together, clarifying: "You two were made out by the media and some fans to be in a relationship."

Agron appeared to have been completely in the dark about these rumours, and couldn't help but find them intriguing.

"That is so interesting," she said, adding: "I mean, there have been many stories about my dating life that are so wildly untrue. That's funny."

Swift's song '22' features lyrics about going on a night out and falling in love with 'strangers', with the chorus adding: "Everything will be alright if you keep me next to you / You don't know about me, but I'll bet you want to / Everything will be alright if we just keep dancing like we're 22."

Agron and Swift were known to have spent time together the same year '22' was released, having shared snaps of themselves together while celebrating Shirley MacLaine's 78th birthday in 2012.

They also posted pictures to celebrate Agron's own birthday with a circus-themed costume party, which Swift described at the time as 'the most magical night'.

The pair haven't been seen together in more recent years, but I suppose they'll always have '22' - in whatever capacity Agron was involved.
