Hailey Bieber has opened up about a 'very scary incident' she had last month.
The model previously confirmed to fans that she had to be taken into hospital for a blood clot in her brain and because she was suffering 'stroke-like symptoms'.
The 25-year-old has since taken to YouTube 'to tell the story in [her] own words' and reveal further details of her health scare.
The model explained how, on 10 March this year, she had been sitting having breakfast with her husband, singer Justin Bieber, having 'a normal day, normal conversation,' when 'all of sudden' she felt 'a really weird sensation' that travelled down her arm, from her shoulder to her fingertips.
She said: "It made my fingertips feel really numb and weird. [...] I was trying to figure out what the sensation was and where it was coming from."
When asked by Justin if she was okay, Hailey explained how she found she 'couldn't speak' and the right side of her face 'started drooping'.
The 25-year-old said she immediately thought she must be having a 'full-blown stroke'. A medic was thankfully nearby, and so 'rushed over' and started testing the model's arms.
"It's definitely the scariest moment of my life, I had so many things running through my head," Hailey reflected, adding that because she was able to walk she went home to wait for an ambulance.
She explained that her speech came back, but anxiety feelings of being scared impacted how well she could talk. However, upon reaching the emergency room, she felt 'pretty much back to normal'.
The model revealed that scans showed she had suffered from a transient ischaemic attack (TIA) which is 'a temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain, often called a 'ministroke'.'
A TIA 'usually foreshadows a stroke'.
"I felt really thankful and grateful for that, that it wasn't worse," she said.
Hailey had multiple tests, including a Bubble Echo, which tests for a Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) – a 'small opening' between the two chambers of the heart. However, she was discharged when the tests didn't confirm anything.
More in-depth tests conducted in the following days arrived at the conclusion the model had a blood clot because of 'three different things'.
"One was that I had just recently started birth control pills, which I should have never been on because I'm someone who suffered from migraines anyway [...] The second thing was I had recently had Covid [...] and the third thing was that I had recently gone on a really long flight," she said.
A Trans Cranial Doppler revealed Hailey had a Grade 5 PFO, which is 'the highest grade you can have'. Doctors recommended she had a procedure to close the hole in the flap in her heart.
The model explained the operation went 'very smoothly' and that she feels 'really relieved'.
Hailey concluded the video with the caption: "Thank you all for watching and listening to my story. I feel very grateful and lucky to have had the resources and family support to be able to deal with this as quickly as I did."
