Howard Stern leaves 'bunker' for first time in two years

Howard Stern left his 'bunker' for the first time in two years for a meal with some of his celebrity pals.

The US radio show host has been hunkering down in his Manhattan house since March 2020, keeping behind closed doors throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

But on Friday (30 September), he was spotted dining with stars such as Jennifer Aniston, Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Hamm, Justin Theroux and Jason Bateman at Laser Wolf, an Israeli restaurant in Brooklyn.

Another nosey diner at the restaurant told PageSix: "Howard was there without even a mask.

"They all sat at a large table, Howard was seated next to Jimmy and also at one point seemed to be in deep conversation with Jon Hamm.

"Stern told restaurant staff this was his first night out since the start of the pandemic."

Speaking on his radio show – The Howard Stern Show – yesterday (Monday 3 October), the 68-year-old said it was all 'too much' for him.

"I really had an exhausting weekend, emotionally, physically," he said.

"For the first time in two years I ventured out of the house. It was too much for me. It was too much.

"I haven't been out in two years. I said to my wife, 'I don't want to go, I'm in a panic, I don't want to get Covid.'"

He added: "I know our president has told us the pandemic is over and everyone is walking around without masks … I still just don't want to get Covid."

Speaking a couple of weeks back, President Joe Biden said: "We still have a problem with Covid. We're still doing a lot of work on it. But the pandemic is over.

"If you notice, no-one's wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape... I think it's changing."

His remarks came after the head of the World Health Organization shared his most optimistic outlook on the situation since the pandemic began.

"We are not there yet. But the end is in sight," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

More than 6.5 million Covid deaths have been reported since the start of the pandemic, but the WHO estimated last month that 19.8 million deaths were averted in 2021 due to Covid-19 vaccines.
