Iggy Azalea has shared a statement following reports that she wrote a letter of support for Canadian rapper Tory Lanez after Megan Thee Stallion accused him of shooting her.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, has been in jail since December 2022 after being convicted of first-degree assault, discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and having a concealed and unregistered firearm in a vehicle following the shooting.
A court hearing for his sentencing was held on Monday (7 August), during which the judge in the case summarised the numerous letters the court had received about Lanez.

According to court reporter Meghann Cuniff, one of the letters had been written by Azalea and saw her request that Lanez be given a sentence 'that is transformational, not life-destroying'.
News of Azalea's alleged support sparked mixed responses from fans, but the Australian rapper has now spoken out to share her side of the story and set the record straight.
In a lengthy statement shared on Twitter, Azalea began by saying she had 'not been in touch with Tory for months'.

"I have no reason to be, but I do wish him well," she added.
However, while she claimed she had not been in touch with Lanez directly, Azalea admitted that she did write a letter in relation to his case.
She continued: "2. I don’t 'support' anyone. The whole thing is full of oddities. My letter never mentioned anything in regard to what happened that night.
"3. I was told this was for a judge only, yet it’s being discussed in public? I never intended to publicly comment.

"4. I am not in support of throwing away ANY ones life if we can give reasonable punishments that are rehabilitative instead. I support prison reform. Period."
Azalea went on to explain she had been asked to write about her 'genuine experience' in relation to Lanez, as well as 'the type of punishment' she believes he deserves.
"It’s not really that interesting but I understand why it’s being sensationalized," she continued. "See ya next week to discuss pizza toppings I suppose. Lol."

In a follow up post, Azalea argued the letter was 'not really an explosive revelation'.
"Yes: he should be held accountable. No: the charges don’t warrant 5plus in prison," she added. "Most agree with that sentiment because it’s a reasonable take. This is not news worthy."
A sentence in Lanez's case was expected to be handed down after the letters were read on Monday, but the Los Angeles hearing has now been delayed until 10:30am local time on Tuesday.
