It's Been 15 Years Since Hugh Grant Sung PoP! Goes My Heart

Music and Lyrics is 15 years old, but Hugh Grant's singing and signature dance moves reign just as iconic.

Grant dances, sings and truly nails every rom-com his floppy hair graces.

If you can overlook the fact he normally always plays the role of the f*ckboy then you've found yourself the man of your dreams.

He first began practising his epic moves in 2003's Love Actually, and even 15 years on since the actor starred in Music and Lyrics (2007), I still reckon he could bash out a pretty good rendition and boogie to fictional band PoP!'s PoP Goes My Heart.

Music and Lyrics, written and directed by Marc Lawrence, sees Alex Fletcher (Hugh Grant) pick up the pen to begin composing again following his faded career in British pop group PoP!, which fizzled out around two decades prior.

Teaming up with the woman who waters his plants, Sophie Fisher (Drew Barrymore), Fletcher soon finds his rhythm again and as per every rom-com, he and Fisher end up falling madly in love. Although, in my view, even more exciting, is when PoP! reunite.

The '1984 Atlantic Records' hit by PoP! is not only beautifully British, containing the ultimate dad dancing and so much of Hugh's flopping hair, but also features just as much hip action reminiscent of Grant's scene playing the prime minister in Christmas classic, Love Actually.

A video of the epic song which opens the film was posted onto YouTube by user Engrish94 on December 31, 2009. It has since amassed over 10 million views, with users flooding to the post in utter adoration of Grant and PoP!. One said: 'I grew up in the 80's and if these guys had been a real band, I would have had all their albums in high school.'

Another wrote: 'Without fail, this always makes me smile. Always. Even during a coronavirus pandemic. . .'

A third commented: 'Hugh Grant: I was really nervous about doing the dancing scene in love actually. Also Hugh Grant:'

In an interview with Vulture, Grant revealed his true feelings about the fictional band's song. 'I like to perform PoP Goes My Heart with all the dance moves every morning and every evening, with my children. It’s our little routine it’s like The Sound of Music. If they don’t do it I beat them', he said.

So, this Valentine's Day, why not stick Music and Lyrics on and instead of crying over the date who's ghosted you, just fall in love with Hugh again.
