Johnny Depp Says ‘How Do You Think She Got Aquaman?’ After Accusation From Heard’s Lawyer

Amber Heard is set to appear in the sequel for Aquaman in 2023

Johnny Depp brought up his ex-wife Amber Heard's film Aquaman when facing an accusation from her lawyer during the former couple's ongoing defamation trial.

Depp took to the stand again on Monday (25 April) for the trial which has so far seen him be questioned by his own lawyer and cross-examined by Heard’s legal team.

During today's questioning, Heard's attorney asked him about a text he had previously sent to Heard in response to receiving a message from her which read: "I’m at a coffee meeting now, will be home soon.”

In his responding text, read out loud by Heard's lawyer, Depp replied: “No goddamn meetings. No movies. Why? Why do you deviate from our agreement? What species of meeting? F*** it. Just tell me when you get home.”

After reading the text for the court, Heard's lawyer implied the Pirates of the Caribbean star's text suggested he did not want her to take the meeting.

"You didn’t want her to take the meeting that she was taking that day, correct?," the lawyer said.

Depp, however, argued the text was actually about an arrangement previously made between himself and Heard, saying: “It seems as though we had an agreement to do something together. I’m actually asking what species of meeting.

“So this is not necessarily an angry text, it’s just why do you deviate from our agreement?," he continued.

Depp then added: "It’s not about her doing films. How do you think she got Aquaman, sir?"

Heard starred in DC's Aquaman in 2018 and is set to appear in the sequel next year, though the decision to include her in the second film caused controversy with supporters of Depp after he accused her of abusing him.

Last year, Warner Bros. producer Peter Safran told Deadline's Hero Nation the creators had chosen to keep Heard in the film in spite of the allegations and backlash from fans, saying: "I don't think that we're ever going to react to, honestly, pure fan pressure.

"You gotta do what you feel is best for the movie. We felt that if it's James Wan and Jason Momoa, it should be Amber Heard. That's really what it was."

Depp has sued Heard for alleged defamation in relation to a 2018 op-ed written for The Washington Post in which she claimed she was 'a public figure representing domestic abuse'. Heard then sued Depp in response and accused him of orchestrating a 'smear campaign' against her.

Depp has so far taken the stand a number of times in the trial, while Heard is set to take the stand later in the proceedings.
